McVay Center for the Performing Arts at Morey

Housed in the historic Arthur T. Morey Field House, originally designed by Bernard Maybeck, the McVay Center for the Performing Arts at Morey is a modern, multi-functional performance venue shared by the Music and Performing Arts Departments. Opened in the Fall of 2019, the McVay Center for the Performing Arts at Morey rounds out and complements other existing performance and studio spaces on campus (Davis Theatre, Davis Music Hall, and Cox Auditorium). The McVay Center for the Performing Arts at Morey houses the Robert Duvall Theatre—a gorgeous, state-of-the-art, 325-seat proscenium theatre. The theatrical space includes state of the art sound; the only fully LED theatrical lighting system on campus; an automated orchestra pit/lift system, which allows the entire apron to sit at various levels for a variety of performance configurations; and a fully automated over-stage fly system. The McVay Center for the Performing Arts also houses Principia College’s largest dance studio, equal to the size of stages in both the Robert Duvall Theatre and Cox Auditorium, both of which are used for dance performances. Additionally, the McVay Center includes two Steinway concert grand pianos, dressing rooms, a green room, instrument and costume storage facilities, a student/faculty dance workspace and classroom, as well as additional office and storage space.
